RAW STORY

“Don’t let it ruin your summer.” These were the words of advice from my doctor as she closed my file and moved on to her next patient. I sat there stunned. After several irregular pap smears, my doctor had informed me a cervical cone biopsy, which could cause complications with future pregnancies, would be necessary if my next pap continued to show abnormal cells.

With the hope of one day having children of my own and the threat of a cone biopsy looming a mere 90 days away, I searched tirelessly on the internet to see what I could do. Within 72 hours I went 100% raw. Three months later, I had my first regular pap smear in two years. No biopsy required.

I have now been raw since June 2006. For the first 3 months I jumped into 100% raw and in addition to fruits, veggies, nuts and seeds, I included raw milk cheese, sashimi, rare seared steak and manna bread. After the pap test came back normal in September I relaxed a bit and went 80% raw with all the foods listed above, eating one or two cooked meals a week.

Having maintained that structure until December 26, 2007, I felt inspired to take the leap and go 100% raw vegetarian. I included raw fruits, veggies, nuts, seeds, raw milk cheese and manna bread.

Then in July 2008, I further refined my diet to 100% Raw Vegan and currently eat mostly fresh fruit mono meals, greens when I crave them (usually romaine heart leaves and celery) and the occasional handful of nuts or an avocado.

When I go out to eat, I still enjoy the more complex raw combinations at raw restaurants but rarely prepare them at home.  The “Beet Burger” at Eternal Abundance in Vancouver is one of my favorite raw dishes... And the Vanilla Almond Snackaroons made by Laughing Giraffe are a wonderfully decadent sweet treat.

Prior to going raw, at 5’10” tall, I constantly struggled to keep my weight under 145 lb. Now I easily maintain 130-135 lb with 18% body fat. No more dieting!

As my raw journey continues, I look forward to sharing my experiences and knowledge with others interested in a Raw Vegan Lifestyle. It’s easy, it’s fun and it’s good for ya!
